Brachychiton acerifolius - Illawarra Flame Tree

This spectacular native tree is a favourite for a specimen tree and thought by many to be the most beautiful flowering tree in the world. It is semi deciduous, losing leaves on the flowering branches.

The profuse bell flowers occur in late spring and are attractive to birds and bees. Enjoy the early morning and late afternoon visitors to the mature trees.

It fits in well with water wise gardens as it tolerates dry spells.

Propagation is easy using hot water treatment. Use gloves when handling the seeds as the hairs can cause irritation.

These plants are available from Sea Acres Rainforest Centre for a $3.00 donation to Landcare.
