Handsome tree, 6m-15m high, with a dense round canopy. Fruits ripen at different stages and provide food over an extended period for birds during spring, when food can often be scarce. Semi-deciduous, fast-growing and hardy. Food plant for the caterpillars of the Purple Moonbeam butterfly (Philiris innotatus).
