Fast-growing, soft-wooded shrub, 3-4m tall. Leaves may be lobed or lance-shaped. Dark green leaves. Large violet flowers in Spring-Summer are followed by large orange-red berries. Native bees visit the flowers and aid fertilisation by 'buzz pollination'. Well-drained soil in sun or shade. Good screen.
