Medium/large evergreen tree, to 12m in the garden, larger in the wild. Dark purple edible fruit. Best in rich, moist, well-drained non-alkaline soil, in a humid climate. Valued for its brown softwood timber, used in furniture, joinery, boat planking, lining and salt water piles. Endemic to the east coast of Australia.
